Luis G. Cajiga
Painter and printmaker.
In 1952, with the help of Inés Mendoza de Muñoz Marín, the governor’s wife, Cajiga moved to San Juan to study at the Graphic Arts Workshop of DivEdCo with artists Lorenzo Homar, Rafael Tufiño, José Meléndez Contreras, and Félix Bonilla Norat. He also learned perspective from painter Fran Cervoni. From 1960 to 1962, he worked as Homar’s assistant at the Graphic Arts Workshop of the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. In 1975, he earned a master’s degree in education from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, and by 1979 he had opened his own gallery in Old San Juan. Cajiga is best known for his colorful paintings of everyday life and city scenes, especially those of Old San Juan.
